From the Vennel steps in Edinburgh's Old Town, the castle emerges from the dark like something from another century — ancient stone lit amber against a deep blue winter sky, wet cobblestones reflecting the street lamps of the close below.

This is one of those moments that required patience. Multiple visits. Waiting for exactly the right conditions — rain-slicked streets, blue hour sky, and the castle illuminated at its most dramatic. When it finally came together, the shot was everything the location had always promised.
